Flash in Scotland

Flash is the industry standard program used by many designers to add interactivity and motion to a web page. This page shows a simple Flash movie to the right.

Severn Internet tends to advise clients to limit the amount of Flash included in a site. This is primarily because we find search engines can have problems ranking sites with lots of Flash. Flash file sizes also tend to be larger than normal HTML pages and are therefore slower to load.

Concerns over compatibility are largely misplaced these days as the majority of viwers will have Flash installed on their machine. Using Flash is not appropriate for everyone, but if you want your site to look different and stand out from the crowd, Flash could be the way to go.

Flash is most akin to making a movie. It requires additional design skills over and above that required to design a normal page. At Severn Internet we have specialist Flash designers in house.
